HVAC Retrofit

10kw Solar Array

Office Efficiency

HVAC Upgrade leafy plant

As part of the first stage to reduce our energy consumption by 50%, we've completely replaced our heating and cooling system. The old forced-air electric heaters have reached the end of their life and have been recycled.

In place of that system, JBDG, Inc. worked directly with Carrier Corporation to debut one of the most efficient gas/electric hybrid heating systems installed on a small office building. The Infinity heaters/compressors offer up to a SEER 19 rating, the industries highest, and will give us a much more integrated solution at a most lower operating cost. Each office is now individually zoned, and depending on fuel costs, the system can be run exclusively on propane or electricity. Even when using 100% electricity, our heating and cooling costs now only account for 15% of our overall electrical consumption. The HVAC unit in the average office typically takes 4-5 times that amount.

Not only is the heating system innovative but also our simple heat-capture system from our server room. We've integrated ductwork and a 300 CFM fan to capture excess heat from our servers (about 8000 BTU an hour) and use it to help heat perpetually cold zones in the building during winter; such as near exit doors. During the summer, the room's extra heat is ventilated directly outside. Before this addition, we had to use a dedicated AC unit to cool the room year round.

The building's air quality is maintained by air purifiers that captures and kills 99.999% of all viruses, molds, and bacteria. If needed, it can refresh all the air in the building every 15 minutes. It cleans the air so well, the system passes U.S. government standards to protect against military grade anthrax. Now that is 'green' and clean air!
