Being 'Green' can mean many different things when it comes to architecture. To some, this means including a minor amount of recycled materials in projects. Others only look to LEED certification. While LEED is an important step to setting benchmarks, it isn't the end-all-be-all when it comes to design. Some LEED certified buildings can end up consuming more energy than an identical non-certified building next door. We at JBDG, Inc. are working to become an industry leader in sustainable design, including Energy Star and LEED certified design.

We aim to lead by example. By embracing the goals of The 2030 Challenge, architects and developers are to create 100% carbon neutral buildings within two decades. This means a nearly fully grid independent workplace. This year marks a major shift for our business. We have retrofitted our offices to cut our own energy consumption by 50% and aim to cut our consumption by another 50%. Look to the links on the left to read more details on our efforts to reduce the ecological footprint of our facility.

The 'greening' of our building is a big step, but we also have to take a look at how our team gets to work everyday. So in an effort to reduce emissions and congestion from our roadways, every full-time employee is given a transit pass good on all Puget Sound buses, trains and light-rail, complements of JBDG, Inc.

On June 26th, 2008, the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce published an article about JBDG's sucessful efforts.
